Number Recognition and Writing Numerals

Now we are given the numeral and are asked to color or shade the correct number of squares. The shaded squares don't have to be in any particular spot on the grid. We are focusing on how many, not where. Study the examples to see how to do these. Place the green unit blocks in the squares before shading or coloring.
Continue to practice writing by tracing over the outlines of the numerals.

A good place to reinforce number recognition and counting is on a calendar.
During the course of the day, point out the number of the date and notice the date before and the date following.

At this level, we are focusing on counting from zero to nine. Later, we will add greater numbers. Whenever the student is ready, mention that there are seven days in a week. We will study the different numbers of days in the months when we come to ordinal numbers.
